Values Set In Stone

Recently I subjected myself to an exceedingly lengthy and detailed personality test via the Internet…just for fun, of course. But I must say I was rather thunderstruck by one line which probably describes me better than any of the other gobbledygook:

Your vision of the world is complex—your values are not set in stone. Instead, you are able to change your beliefs as you learn new information.

Perhaps a large slice of my troubles up until now is the result of my assumption that this is innately true of everyone.
